For a time there has been an increasing awareness that many women across our churches in the East Widnes

Team continue to carry the effects of the loss of a loved one, irrespective of when this happened. When a woman loses a loved one her world changes. You are in mourning with feelings of grief, shock, numbness, fear and sorrow to name a few.

At some point, you may even feel angry at your loved one for leaving you. All of these feelings are normal. There are no rules about how you one should feel.

There is no right or wrong way to mourn. The feelings of physical and emotional pain affect all aspects of daily living. Psychological aspects can affect concentration and decision making with the added pressure of others who expect you to pull yourself together. After losing a loved one life is a challenge to regain normality and coming to terms with each new event being a first – planning to go on holiday alone, going to the theatre alone. All new major events.

Similar experiences may be felt by men on the loss of their loved one, and the Australian concept of men’s sheds when men join a self-help group to support their loss, health and well-being is being developed at St Johns Centre.

Central to the love and support that can be provided for men and women through the church is meeting with them at their point of need.

In response to the needs of women in the East Widnes team a Friendship group has been formed to offer mutual support and care for one another. This enables a sharing of friendship, experiences and ways of coping with certain issues and situations. Meetings held in St Johns will be followed by a social event such as a meal together or a theatre outing.

The first evening arranged by the Friendship Group was a meal at the Tavern. Ten ladies and Revd Lyn enjoyed an evening of good food and company. The Friendship Group is open to anyone who is looking for love, prayer and support over the loss of a loved one. Please contact Revd Lyn on 07791650911 or lyn.mciver@hotmail.com
