Repair and Regeneration Appeal

On behalf of Friends of Farnworth Church thank you for viewing our update on our R&R appeal (Repair and Regeneration Appeal)

Update April 2024

We have submitted grant applications to Benefact Trust and Buildings for Mission. Steve Bretherton, Funding Development Officer HBC is helping us with applications. As you can imagine this is time consuming - finding possible places to apply for grants and completing application forms. If you have not already become a member of Friends of Farnworth and would like to sign up to be a modern day benefactor to secure the future of St Luke's church click here to join.

Thank you.

‘R & R’   Repair and Regeneration

Our 'R & R' Community Heritage Appeal aims to raise the funding needed to complete necessary REPAIR work to the roofs of Bold Chapel, the Nave and the Bell Tower as well as the REGENERATION of the facilities in our church by providing toilets and a servery so we can welcome more people to our beautiful Grade II* listed Church.

These necessary roof repairs were identified as part of the building's most recent 'Quinquennial Inspection' by specialist surveyors and are needed asap. They will protect the fabric of the building from damage and decay caused by damp and water ingress. They will also protect interior fittings and several items of historic interest. At the same time toilets and a servery will be installed so we can better  meet the needs of the congregation and the local community.

Overall costs for the toilets and servery work (which must be carried out by heritage specialist contractors) is £191,042 exc VAT. We have already raised £95,940, approximately 50% of the net cost  and are in the process of raising the remaining funding from several charitable trusts and foundations. However, we may not be able to secure all of the outstanding funds of £95,102 and therefore we must continue fundraising.  VAT of £38,208 will be claimed from Listed Places of Worship legislation.

Farnworth Church has stood as a beacon in this area for over 800 years.  It is the oldest building still in regular use and its history is full of notable events and people who have passed through its doors. It proudly stands today due to the generosity and faithful maintenance by many benefactors through the centuries to the present day.
